Day of Arafah Wednesday - 9 Dhul Hijjah  (Sept' 23rd)

Virtues of the Day of Arafat

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims performing Hajj gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord.

It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not performing Hajj to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” [Related by Muslim ]

4,000 Delaware Muslims Gathered for ISD Eid Prayer

The Muslim community of Delaware marked the ending of the spiritual month of Ramadan yesterday through much fanfare and festivities. The largest Eid gathering in the state, organized by the Islamic Society of Delaware, took place at the Bob Carpenter Center, University of Delaware campus. Approximately 4,000 Muslims attended the event. The celebrations started with a prayer service led by the resident Imam, Sheikh Abdel-Hadi, who invoked the importance of continuing spiritual learning throughout the year. He called upon the Muslims to actively take part in the social services and other civic engagement activities. The gathering also featured special guests including Congressman John Carney and State Senator Bryan Townsend. Rep. Carney greeted the audience with a warm Eid message. He also stressed that he was their sole voice in the House of Representatives and would like continued engagement with the Muslim community.

The Islamic Society of Delaware also launched its first mobile app on the Eid Day. Another first was a Voter Registration Booth at the event, stressing the importance the Muslim community gives on their civic responsibilities.
